The first performance of Les 100 Violons brought 150 violinists to the National Museum of Carthage, drawn from a network that now exceeds 300 musicians across Tunisia. Two constraints follow from that: the setting is an archaeological site, and the subject is an orchestra of one hundred and fifty people playing in the round. Neither leaves room for a screen. The answer was eight pillars forming a ring around the orchestra, clad in P3.9 LED across two faces of 5 by 4 metres, eight slats per face. The audience sits outside the ring, so the light structure sits between them and the musicians and becomes the architecture of the concert rather than a backdrop to it. The direction is deliberately minimal: flat colours and slow gradients, no figurative imagery, nothing that competes with the music or with the stone. The system splits the two faces of each pillar. The inner side takes a warm range, turned toward the musicians, the outer side a cold one, addressed to the audience and the rest of the site. A single GLSL shader feeds all sixteen surfaces through TouchDesigner, which holds coherence across nearly fifty minutes of set with no video editing at all. The image is not played back, it is computed frame by frame during the concert, which is what allows it to follow an orchestra rather than run alongside it.
