Visual environment for the live sessions around Don Pac’s Fashion Weak EPs, where the projected backdrop is also the only light in the room.

Fashion Weak, Parts I and II, are Don Pac's 2023 EPs: a project that fuses acoustic and electric textures with reggae, cumbia, dub, afro and hip-hop. For the live sessions that carried the release, the visual answer was a projected backdrop rather than a screen placed next to the band. Blocks of colour build and collapse on the back wall behind the musicians, red and magenta holding the first half, teal taking the second, shifting with the set rather than cutting on the beat. The projection is also the lighting. There is almost no other source in the room, so the musicians are lit by the image itself: when the blocks recede, the players fall into the dark with them. That makes the visual system part of the performance rather than decoration behind it, and it means every state has to be legible as light before it is legible as graphics.
